Which land was given?
The interim government of Punjab province in Pakistan has handed over 45 thousand 267 acres of land to the army in 3 districts of Bhakkar, Khushab and Sahiwal. The Pakistan Army is going to produce on this land through corporate agriculture farming. According to Pakistani media reports, the Army’s Land Directorate has written a letter to the Chief Secretary of Punjab province as well as several officials in this regard. The army had demanded a total of more than 45 thousand acres of land.
Why is this being done?
Pakistan Army has been allowed to do agriculture to increase the production of agricultural products. The project will be implemented as a joint venture. According to sources, the army will play the role of manager in this. The ownership of the land will remain with the government of that state. No share will be given to the army in the income of this corporate farm. This project will be implemented in several phases.
According to news channel Geo TV in Pakistan, the army plays an important role in ensuring food security and availability of water to agricultural land. According to the report of the newspaper ‘Dawn’ in Pakistan, this project, jointly implemented by the Government of Pakistan and the Government of Punjab, has been signed on 8 March. It was only after this agreement that the state government handed over the land to the army.
