Kanpur, 09 June (HS). Call it the indifference of Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association or the story of internal conflict going on within it. Green Park Stadium, which has been bearing the brunt of international matches for many years, has once again become a victim of neglect. This time it has not been considered suitable by the association even for the matches of the domestic cricket series. On the contrary, Lucknow's Ekana Stadium has certainly got the reward for the success of the 17th edition of the recently concluded IPL season.
A former international cricket player, who is an expert on cricket, told on the condition of anonymity that the internal disputes within the association are the reason behind this. Some other selected cricketers of the city have held the State Cricket Association completely responsible for not allocating Ranji matches to the first ever declared international Green Park Stadium of the city and the state.
It is worth noting that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the detailed schedule of its domestic matches for the new season of the year 2024-25. According to this, this time the new season will start with the Duleep Trophy from September 5. Its league matches will be played in Anantapur. In the released calendar of the domestic season of this season, the venues of many tournaments have also been announced. The name of Green Park in Kanpur is not included in this. However, Ekana Stadium in Lucknow has got the hosting of Vijay Merchant Trophy and Senior Women's T20 league matches.
It is sad that there are no big matches at Green Park
Ranji Trophy, the country's biggest domestic cricket tournament, will begin from October 11. This time Uttar Pradesh's team is in Elite Group-C in Ranji Trophy. UP team was in Group-B last season and was eliminated before the knockout stage by finishing sixth. The successful organisation of three domestic Ranji Trophy matches of the last season was completely ignored. A former junior international cricketer of the city said that if matches are held here, players from various teams of the country come, and the players have also been a part of the Indian team at some point, so the budding cricketers get the experience of watching their ideal players play. Due to non-organisation of domestic matches in Green Park, the talented players of the city will not be able to see big cricket. This is a very sad matter. Another cricketer of the city said that the inferior employees of UPCA have a huge contribution in making Green Park a victim of neglect, which should not happen.
