On India's performance in the FIH Pro League, Harmanpreet said- we showed great resilience and teamwork

New Delhi, June 10 (HS). The Indian men's hockey team concluded its campaign in the FIH Pro League 2023-24 with 24 points from 16 matches, including 8 wins and 8 losses. Currently, the Indian team is fourth in the points table.

The tournament featured nine strong teams including Argentina, Australia, Belgium, India, Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Spain and Ireland. India played their 16th and final match in the FIH Pro League 2023-24 on Sunday, bringing an intense and competitive season to an end.

Notably, Indian men's hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh had a stellar season in the tournament and was the top scorer for India. With 12 goals to his name, he is currently the joint leading goalscorer of the tournament along with Australia's Blake Govers and Netherlands' Jip Janssen. Harmanpreet's scoring ability was evident as he scored 8 goals from penalty corners and 4 from penalty strokes.

Speaking on the team's performance, Harmanpreet said, “The FIH Pro League 2023-24 has been an incredible journey for us. Some of our wins against strong teams like Netherlands, Argentina and Germany highlight the hard work and determination of our team. We have shown great resilience and teamwork throughout the tournament.”

Harmanpreet also stressed the importance of this tournament in preparation for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.

He added, “This league has been crucial in helping us understand our strengths and areas of improvement. Competing against top-tier teams has given us valuable insights about our game. We now know where we stand and what we need to work on to perform at our best on the global stage.”

Looking ahead, the Indian team will take a short break before returning for a brief camp in Bangalore, where they will look to fine-tune their strategies and focus on key areas.

“We have identified specific aspects of our game that need attention, and the upcoming camp will be crucial in working on those areas. Our aim is to improve our performance and ensure that we are fully prepared for the Paris Olympics,” he added.
