Dr. Mohapatra, along with neurosurgeon Dr. Ramchandra Dev, performed a surgery to remove the tail. Pro. Mohapatra said that most newborns grow a tail in the womb, which disappears by eight weeks. Sometimes however, the fetal tail does not disappear and the baby is born with it. At present the condition of the child is fine.
