Nutrition campaign is the foundation of a healthy and capable India: Chief Minister

Lucknow, 19 September (HS). Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Tuesday that nutrition campaign is the foundation of a healthy and capable India. There was a time when the liquor mafia in Uttar Pradesh used to supply nutritious food. Our government created a new mechanism. Through this, women volunteer groups are delivering nutritious food to Anganwadi centers today. The result of this is that Uttar Pradesh has taken a huge leap in the National Family Health Survey. If we look at the figures, in comparison to 2015-2016, there has been an improvement of 5.1 percent in anemia, 6.6 percent in dwarfism, 7.4 percent in underweight and 0.6 percent in dryness in the state in 2019-2020.

Chief Minister Yogi was addressing the National Nutrition Month program organized at Lok Bhavan. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inspired the entire country to start a comprehensive campaign to fight malnutrition. A lot of work has been done in this direction in Uttar Pradesh in the last six years. There was a time when there were 1200-1500 deaths every year in the entire state due to encephalitis. Eastern Uttar Pradesh was particularly affected by this disease. In the last 30 years from 1977 to 2017, about 50,000 children in the state had died due to this disease.

Yogi said that after our government came to power, we started the work of eradicating encephalitis by making inter-departmental coordination with the Center in 2018. Today we have been successful in eliminating encephalitis from the entire state. Today maternal and child mortality rates have declined in Uttar Pradesh. This became possible because mothers and babies started getting nutritious food.

He said that this is the first year of the immortal period of independence. India is carrying many achievements. We all have to establish India as the third largest economy in the world by 2027. Prime Minister Modi has set a target of making the country a developed India by 2047 i.e. when the country will be celebrating the centenary of independence. For this we have to make the country healthy, literate and capable.
