No party has majority in France, leftist coalition is leading

Paris, July 9 (HS). France has got a hung parliament as no party or alliance got majority in the parliamentary elections. However, the leftist alliance New Popular Front (NFP) won the maximum number of seats in the elections and dashed the hopes of the far right. At the same time, President Emmanuel Macron's bet of holding parliamentary elections before time backfired. In the elections held on a total of 577 seats, the leftist alliance NFP got 182 seats, Macron's centrist alliance got 168 seats and Marine Le Pen's alliance got 143 seats. Whereas 289 is required for majority. In the counting of votes, Macron's centrist alliance came second and Marine Le Pen's rightist party National Rally and its allies came third.

Earlier, violence broke out across France after exit polls surprisingly predicted a lead for the leftists over the right-wingers. Video footage showed masked protesters running on the streets, setting fires and creating unrest. After the election results, President Macron rejected Prime Minister Gabriel Attal's offer to resign on Monday, saying he should remain in office until a permanent arrangement is made for the stability of the country. After the first round of voting in France on June 30, the right-wing party National Rally was ahead, but the picture that emerged in the counting of votes on Monday after the second round of voting on Sunday is likely to give a clear indication of the party's lead in the coming days.
There is a danger of political upheaval in the country. President Macron still has three years left in his term. He will face difficulties in implementing policies.
