Nine dead in Bikaner-Guwahati train accident, Union Railway Minister reached the accident site

Guwahati, January 14 (H.S.). Train no. crashed in the unfortunate accident. The death toll in 15633 Bikaner-Guwahati Express has reached nine. Whereas, 36 injured are being treated in three hospitals.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav reached the accident site on Friday morning and inquired about the cause of the incident from the officials. At the same time, the General Manager of NSE, DRM of Alipurduar Division is reaching the spot and taking stock of the situation. The Railway Safety Department is also trying to ascertain the cause of the accident by reaching the spot. While the team of engineers is busy in repairing the railway line.

According to information released by the Chief Public Relations Officer of Northeast Frontier Railway (NEC), Guneet Kaur, six men and two women were among the dead. Of these, six people have been identified, while three people are yet to be identified. The treatment of 26 injured victims of the accident is going on in SSH Jalpaiguri. Six injured are being treated at North Bengal Medical College and seven injured at Maynaguri Rural Hospital.

On getting information about the incident, senior railway officials from New Jalpaiguri and New Alipurduar reached the spot along with accident relief trains and started relief and rescue operations. The 2nd Battalion of NDRF, BSF personnel, local civil administration, police department also participated in the relief and rescue operations. The General Manager of NEC also immediately left the train from Guwahati for the accident site.

The accident took place near New Domohani station under Alipurduar Junction Division of Pusire. The spot is about 42 km from New Jalpaiguri station and about 100 km from New Alipurduar station. The accident happened around 5 pm. 12 coaches of the train derailed in the accident, out of which 2 overturned.

Around 1053 passengers were on board the train at the time of the accident. Every effort was made by the railway administration for the relief of the passengers. Arrangements were also made to send the stranded passengers by alternate trains. Drinking water and snacks have been provided to all the stranded passengers from the pantry car of the train. A special train was flagged off from New Jalpaiguri at 07.05 pm to take the stranded passengers. Railway administration has informed about the completion of rescue work.

Some trains have been diverted from alternate routes due to the accident. Railways has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the next of kin of the deceased. An announcement has been made to give one lakh rupees to the seriously injured and 25 thousand rupees to the general injured.
