Ahmedabad: On New Year’s Eve i.e. 31st December, a record increase has been recorded in the sales of quick commerce companies. On New Year’s Eve, the Quick Commerce sector saw a 200 percent increase in sales compared to last year.

Commenting on the sales on December 31, sources at instant commerce companies said companies in this sector secured the highest number of orders in a single day. Popular items include grapes, chips and soda. Some companies even set a new record by selling more than 500,000 packets of chips. Sales of cola soft drinks increased by 394%, while sales of clear soft drinks increased by 941%.

In 2025, the instant commerce sector is expected to face intense regulatory scrutiny from e-commerce giants like Amazon and Flipkart as the government is likely to strengthen its measures to protect competition and protect consumer data.

Key legislative changes, including the implementation of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act and the upcoming Digital Competition Bill, are set to reshape the operating landscape for these companies.

The Competition Commission of India is already investigating Amazon and Flipkart over allegations of favoring select sellers on their platforms. The Enforcement Directorate recently raided 19 locations, following reports that these companies maintain tight control over the vendor list. Regulations force e-commerce platforms to act only as marketplaces, without directly holding inventory.
