Ballia, September 19 (HS). After the NH 31 broke down near Majhi, just two hundred meters from Chand Diyar police station in Bairia tehsil of the district on Wednesday night, many nearby villages were suddenly surrounded by water. For the people of the most affected Yadav Nagar, the NDRF team became an angel in the darkness of the night. Not only did they rescue about a hundred people, but also provided relief to the people who had taken shelter on the roofs.
NH 31 could not withstand the surge in the Saryu river at around 1 am on Wednesday night. Due to the heavy pressure of the river, the main road connecting UP to Bihar via Majhi was washed away in a moment for about 50 meters. Due to which about a dozen hamlets of Chand Diyar Gram Sabha were badly affected. On getting the information, District Magistrate Praveen Kumar Lakshkar immediately sent NDRF and police. The District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police also reached there themselves. Rescue work started on a war footing at the level of the government and administration.
The NDRF team, led by the flood section and SDM, started rescue operations to help the affected people. They were suddenly surrounded by water in the darkness of the night. The NDRF personnel reached the screaming people by dawn. Naina Kumari, a resident of Yadav Tola of Chand Diyar, says that she was sleeping in the house with her family at night. During this time, she heard the sound of water flowing with a loud noise. However, she immediately realized that the dam had broken, but by the time she got up and tried to rescue, water entered her house. The NDRF team arrived after some time and rescued them and took them out. Many other flood victims said that they had to take shelter on the roof due to the sudden arrival of water.
