Nagaland : The Assembly has constituted a 10-member select committee to assess all aspects of the border dispute with Assam.
After intense deliberations on the Assam-Nagaland border issue, the Assembly unanimously adopted a three-point resolution moved by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.
The House has asked the committee to submit its report within three months.
The convenors of the committee are Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy Chief Minister Y. Patton and opposition leader T.R. Are. Zeliang, as co-convenor of the committee.
The House resolved to request Union Home Minister Amit Shah to maintain status quo in the disputed area till the issues are resolved.
It was also decided in the meeting that the border issue should be resolved amicably.
The Chief Secretaries of Assam and Nagaland had on July 31 signed an agreement to de-escalate the tense situation prevailing at two locations in Desoi Valley forest/Surangkong Valley by simultaneous withdrawal of security forces within the next 24 hours.
Earlier, opposition MLA in Nagaland Assembly, Imkong L Imchen, while initiating the discussion in the House on matters of urgent public importance related to Nagaland-Assam border, said that border disputes have been taking place between the two states from time to time while there has been continuous harassment. Is. There was an encounter with Naga people passing from Assam side.
He also alleged that after Himanta Biswa Sarma became the Chief Minister, he has started provoking border issues with all the neighboring north eastern states “with the intention of declaring war against the neighbors around Assam”.
Imchen also questioned the intention of the Assam Chief Minister’s announcement to deploy 4000 commandos in all border areas of the north-eastern state.
“I don’t think their commandos will be distributing sweets, rasgullas, samosas or chicken fries but will be involved in something else… This is a direct challenge against all the northeastern states,” he said.
