Mumbai – The first case of HMPV virus has been reported in Mumbai. Last week, a six-month-old baby girl admitted to a private hospital in Powai, Mumbai has been found HMPV positive. However, the girl has been discharged after five days of treatment.
Last January 1, the girl was brought to the hospital after suffering from cough and difficulty in breathing. The pediatrician who treated the girl said that her chest congestion and oxygen saturation had reduced to 84 percent. Achi was admitted to ICU. Multiple respiratory virus tests were conducted in which the patient was found to be HMPV positive. The doctor said medicine was used to open his airway. The girl was discharged from the hospital five days after admission.
After the first case of human metapneumovirus (MMPV) was reported in Mumbai, the number of cases has now increased to three in Maharashtra and nine in the country. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has stepped up efforts to get information about flu cases and respiratory patients.
Meanwhile, the Pune-based Directorate of Health Services has announced the first guidelines. The Health Department has advised to cover the nose and mouth with a handkerchief or tissue paper when sneezing and to wash hands frequently with soap and water or alcohol-based sanitizer.
Maharashtra government constituted a task force on Tuesday. The task force will prepare standard operating procedures (SOPs) to contain the virus and decide on the next steps.
