Mumbai, March 12 (HS). Mumbai City FC will host NorthEast United FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 match at the Mumbai Football Arena this evening.
The Islanders now face the challenge of defending their ISL League Winners Shield title. They have been dethroned by Mohun Bagan Super Giants at the top of the table on Sunday night, with both teams having 36 points, but the Mariners (17) have played one match less than the Islanders (18). Odisha FC (35 points from 18 matches) and FC Goa (32 points from 17 matches) are also in the race for the top spot, so Mumbai City FC has no margin for error.
The Islanders have been in good form recently and have earned 11 points out of a possible 15 in their last five matches. In contrast, NorthEast United FC have lost eight points out of a possible 12 in their last four matches. “We could have achieved a better result in the last match, because our performance was not bad and that is the most important fact,” NorthEast United FC's Spanish head coach Juan Pedro Benali said before the match. Our aim is very clear to try to perform better and try to learn new things every day.”
So far 19 matches have been played between the two teams, in which Mumbai City FC has won 10 and NorthEast United FC has won 5 matches, while 4 matches have been drawn.
