MP Water Resources Minister Silavat meets Union Forest Minister Yadav

Bhopal, 19 February (HS). Madhya Pradesh Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silavat paid a courtesy call on Union Forest and Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav during his stay in New Delhi on Monday. On this occasion, he discussed with Union Minister Yadav regarding the approval of irrigation projects of the Water Resources Department in pending forest cases.

Minister Silavat said that many progressing irrigation projects of the state are pending in anticipation of forest clearance. Union Forest Minister Yadav assured that action will be taken regarding approval after discussing this matter with officials. Minister Silavat said that many irrigation projects are being implemented in Madhya Pradesh, so that adequate water can be made available for the crops.

Minister Silavat told Union Minister Yadav that at present 41.10 lakh hectare irrigation capacity has been created by the Madhya Pradesh Water Resources Department and the target is to increase it to 53 lakh hectare irrigation capacity in the coming years. To achieve the target, work is in progress by giving approval to large, medium and small irrigation projects under the department. Due to forest land being affected in five ongoing irrigation projects, forest and environment related approvals are pending in the Central Office, New Delhi and Regional Office, Bhopal.

Silavat has requested the Union Forest Minister to provide the pending forest clearance soon, so that the projects can be completed within the time limit and benefits can be given to the farmers.
