The Uttar Pradesh Athletics Association will organize a national javelin throw competition on August 7, the third anniversary of Neeraj Chopra's historic gold medal win at the Tokyo Olympics. More than 100 javelin throwers are expected to participate in this championship. This information was given by UP Athletics Secretary Dr. Devesh Dubey on Monday.
He informed that a javelin throw competition is being organized at Christ Church College Ground Kanpur on August 7. This event is being organized to celebrate National Javelin Throw Day, which marks the anniversary of Neeraj Chopra's historic gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. In this championship, competition will be organized for both male and female athletes in the age groups of Under 14, Under 16, Under 18 and above 18 years.
According to Secretary Devesh Dubey, javelin throwers from all over the state have been invited to participate in the event. He informed that the Athletic Federation of India, the governing body for athletics in India, has designated August 7 as National Javelin Day to honour the achievements of Neeraj Chopra. Neeraj Chopra set a national record with a throw of 89.94m at the Stockholm Diamond League in Sweden on June 30, 2022, which is his personal best score. He informed that this will make it an important event for the aspiring athletes of the state. In this, the players will have to register themselves in advance. The players participating in the competition will have to contact the association and fill the form.
