Mohammad Siraj donated the prize money of Asia Cup final to the groundsmen

Colombo, 18 September (HS). It was raining continuously during the matches in the Sri Lankan leg of the Asia Cup, and groundsmen in Pallekele and Colombo tried their best to keep the matches played. While Indian captains Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli thanked the groundsmen for their work at different times in the tournament, fast bowler Mohammed Siraj went a step further and shared his player-of-the-match award money received in the final match. Donated it to the field workers.

Siraj said after the match, “This cash prize [5000 यूएसडॉलर] Goes to the groundsman. They fully deserve it. This tournament would not have been possible without them.”

Let us tell you that in the final, Siraj took 6 wickets for 21 runs, due to which the Sri Lankan team was bundled out for only 50 runs and India achieved the target in 6.1 overs without any loss.

Earlier in the day, the Asian Cricket Council had also announced a reward of US$50,000 for the team groundsperson.

Pictures of the groundsmen covering the ground as clouds approached were regular during broadcasts, and the promptness and expertise with which they protected the pitch and then the outfield impressed everyone.

Despite rain throughout Sri Lanka, only one match (the group-stage match between Pakistan and India) ended without a result, with the Super Four match between India and Pakistan going to the reserve day. At the same time, India vs Nepal and Pakistan vs Sri Lanka matches were shortened.

The final was also slightly affected by rain. It rained immediately after the toss and the start of play was delayed by ten minutes.
