Milk prices likely to rise this summer due to heat wave

New Delhi: Milk production usually reduces in summer but this time it is likely to have a negative impact. The Meteorological Department has predicted severe heat this summer. Experts say the heat wave and drying up of reservoirs could lead to shortage of fodder and water for dairy cattle. Due to which milk production may be affected in the coming days. If this happens then the possibility of increase in milk prices has also increased.

According to the data of April 4, the water level in 150 major reservoirs of the country is 35 percent, which is 17 percent less than a year ago and two percent less than the average of the last 10 years. There is a possibility of heat wave in many states of the country. Besides, the water level in big reservoirs has also reduced considerably. Due to which there may be shortage of water for animals.

Experts say temperatures are expected to be above average this summer. This can happen especially in Maharashtra, Odisha and southern states. Due to decreasing water level in reservoirs, there may be water shortage in the country in the coming days.

This will lead to inadequate supply of water for animals and milk production may be affected, this time temperatures are expected to be above normal across the country but the central and western regions are expected to be most affected.
