Metropolitan Magistrate will now be Judicial Magistrate

Prayagraj, July 05 (HS). In order to implement Section 6 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS) from July 1, the designation of Metropolitan Magistrate posted in Uttar Pradesh has been changed. Magistrates will now be judicial officers.

According to the newly implemented law, the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Metropolitan Magistrate of the state will now be Chief Judicial Magistrate, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate and Judicial Magistrate First Class respectively. Allahabad High Court has issued its notification.

On the orders of the Chief Justice of the High Court, a copy of the notification issued by Registrar General Rajiv Bharti has been sent to all the District Judges. They have been instructed to make all Metropolitan Magistrates take charge as judicial officers. It has also been said that their designations have been changed in the light of Section 6 of the BNSS.
