Major fire at Lahore International Airport, many flights affected, immigration system damaged

Lahore, 10 May (Hindu). A fire broke out at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, Pakistan on Thursday, damaging the entire immigration system and grounding flight operations. According to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the fire broke out due to a short circuit in the roof of the immigration counter.

Fire brigade personnel and rescue teams immediately reached the spot and brought the fire under control and there were no reports of casualties, the CAA said. The CAA said passengers present in the immigration area were evacuated and sent to the domestic lounge.

Airport staff had to do the job manually.

Meanwhile, taking cognizance of the fire incident, the Home Ministry has sought a detailed report and ordered a thorough investigation into the incident. The minister has also directed to open the immigration counter as soon as possible for the convenience of the passengers.
