The USGS raised the previous intensity rating shortly after the jolt struck 8.8 kilometres (5.5 miles) from the Atikipa district. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, which initially said there was no threat, later warned that “waves of up to three metres are possible along some coasts”.
When did the earthquake happen?

According to local information, people came out of their homes due to the earthquake tremor. Vehicles stopped on the road due to the tremor.

Earlier, on June 16, an earthquake struck Peru. Its magnitude was recorded at 5.9. At present, there is no news of loss of life or property.
