Lucknow, 26 April (HS). Voting has started in eight Lok Sabha constituencies of western Uttar Pradesh at 7 am on Friday. In view of the low voting percentage in the first phase, the Election Commission has increased the voting awareness campaign among the voters. In the second phase of voting, some booths at polling places have been crowded with voters since morning, while at many places the booths are vacant. People are enthusiastic about voting. A total of 91 candidates are in the fray for eight Lok Sabha seats, while the number of voters is 1 crore 67 lakh 77 thousand 198.
Voting, which started at 7 am in the Lok Sabha constituencies Amroha, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr (SC), Aligarh and Mathura, will continue till 6 pm. There are a total of 01 crore 67 lakh 77 thousand 198 voters, out of which 90 lakh 26 thousand 51 are male voters and 77 lakh 50 thousand 356 are female voters. There are 791 third gender voters. In terms of number of voters, the highest number of voters are in Ghaziabad (29 lakh, 45 thousand 487) and the least number of voters are in Baghpat (16 lakh 53 thousand 146) Lok Sabha constituency.
A total of 91 candidates are in the fray in eight constituencies, of which 10 are women candidates. Maximum 15 candidates are in Gautam Buddha Nagar and Mathura Lok Sabha constituency and least six candidates are in Bulandshahr (SC) Lok Sabha constituency. There are a total of 17704 polling booths and 7797 polling stations in the second phase. Of these polling stations, 3472 are critical.
To keep a vigilant eye on the voting, the Commission has also deployed three special observers, eight general observers, five police observers and 12 expenditure observers. Apart from the above, 1451 Sector Magistrates, 190 Zonal Magistrates, 222 Static Magistrates and 1599 Micro Observers have also been deployed. 4213 heavy vehicles, 3251 light vehicles and 79338 polling personnel have been deployed to conduct the election process. 17230 EVM control units, 17331 ballot units and 17443 VVs were used for voting in the elections. Pats have been prepared. Adequate amount of paramilitary forces have been deployed to conduct the elections peacefully. The responsibility of security of the strong room has also been given to paramilitary forces.
