Hamirpur, 30 September (Hindu). The court of Special Judge Robbery Court Anil Kumar Kharwar on Monday pronounced its verdict in the 18-year-old case of kidnapping and murder. The court has sentenced two convicts to life imprisonment. Besides, a fine of Rs 11,000 has been imposed on each culprit. In case of non-payment of fine, he will have to face additional punishment of one year.

Assistant District Government Advocate Chandraprakash Goswami told the court that the victim's father Ramjani, a resident of Sayar village of Biwar police station area, had given a complaint to the Maudha police station. On June 2, 2006, the wedding of his sister-in-law Anisa's daughter Jumia was at Ilahi Talab Maudaha. His wife Nafisa had come to her sister's place along with son Altaf (14) on 31 May 2006 for the wedding. He and his relatives Ramzan and Rehman, residents of Jarauli Charkhari etc. had come for the wedding procession on June 2. The same night his son was in the marriage procession till around 11 pm. After that he was not seen. At night they thought that he might have slept somewhere. When I searched for him in the morning, he was nowhere to be found. Whose missing report was lodged. After the report, at around five in the evening, his relatives Ramzan and Rehman who had come to the wedding procession.

He told that on the pretext of giving tea to his son, Altaf's aunt's son Syed alias Shamsher, resident of Ilahi Talab and Jumman resident of Mawaizar police station, Biwar and Syed's uncle took him towards Artara intersection station at around 11 pm. Believing what he said, he searched for his son in the station and surrounding areas and found his son's dead body lying in the Besharam bushes near the fields of Rassan Lambardar. The culprits murdered his son Altaf by strangulating him with a belt. In the case, the police had prepared a charge sheet against two accused and presented it in the court. Hearing which, the court sentenced the culprits Syed alias Shamsher and Jumman to life imprisonment.

Son murdered due to suspicion

The victim's father had told the police that about 15-20 years ago, convict Syed alias Shamsher's father Habib had gone missing somewhere. Of which nothing has been known till date. Shamsher suspected that his father had been murdered by his brother Salim after making him disappear. Due to this rivalry, his son was murdered. Said that he was tricked into believing by the wedding procession, but he did not believe that his son would be killed.
