Firozabad, 07 June (HS). The court on Friday sentenced a person guilty of dowry murder to life imprisonment. He was also fined. If he does not pay the fine, he will have to undergo additional punishment.
Suresh Singh, son of Ram Babu, resident of Alhadpur village of Matsena police station, married his sister Keshwati to Munesh, resident of Chechhapur ki Thar of Nasirpur police station on 3 February 1990. A few days after the marriage, Munesh, his father Radheshyam, Urmila Devi, uncle Gambhir Singh started demanding gold chain and scooter as additional dowry. Keshwati's parents expressed their inability to fulfill their demand. Brother said that the in-laws started beating him over this issue. Brother Suresh said that on the night of 18 December 1994, his sister's in-laws killed her. On getting to know about this, he reached his sister's in-laws' place with his family members. The in-laws had taken his sister's body to the field for cremation. When they reached there, the in-laws left the body and ran away. In this incident, brother Suresh filed a case against Munesh, his father Radheshyam, mother Urmila Devi and uncle Gambhir Singh. After investigation, the police filed a charge sheet against everyone in the court.
The case was heard in the court of Additional Sessions Judge, Fast Track Court Number 2, Ravikant Yadav. ADGC Crime Ajay Kumar Yadav, who was arguing the case on behalf of the prosecution, said that many witnesses testified during the trial. Many evidences were presented before the court. He said that Gambhir Singh's file was separated during the trial. On the basis of the testimony of witnesses and evidence, the court held Gambhir Singh guilty. The court has sentenced Gambhir Singh to life imprisonment. A fine of Rs. 15,000 has been imposed on him. If the fine is not paid, he will have to suffer additional punishment. The court has ordered to give 50% of the fine amount to the plaintiff.
