Layoffs in Air India: More than 180 employees laid off

Tata Group's airline Air India has shocked its employees. The airline has laid off more than 180 non-flying employees in the past few weeks. According to the information, all the employees involved in this retrenchment process could not avail the benefits of the company's Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) nor could they take advantage of re-skilling opportunities.

Employees performing non-flying tasks were laid off

According to the information, an Air India spokesperson has said that the employees working in non-flying tasks are being adjusted in the airline based on the needs of the organization and their individual qualifications. A comprehensive process has been followed to assess the competency of all employees over the last 18 months. During this phase, employees are also provided with several voluntary retirement schemes and re-skilling opportunities.
