New Delhi, 4 November (Hindustan Reporter). Lawyers of lower courts of Delhi today boycotted judicial work in protest against the police lathicharge on lawyers in Ghaziabad on October 29. However, work went on as before in Delhi High Court.

Today, on the call of the Coordination Committee of All Bar Associations of Delhi, the lawyers of the lower courts boycotted the judicial work. In Patiala House Court, Bar Association leaders were seen closing the shops of photo copy, courier, stationery etc. located in the court premises apart from the court room. A similar scene was seen in all the district courts including Karkardooma Court, Tis Hazari Court, Rohini Court, Saket Court. The bar association leaders also appealed to the judicial authorities not to pass adverse orders in any case. The effect of this was that in all the cases only a date was given during the hearing.

A meeting of the Coordination Committee of All Bar Associations of Delhi was held on 3 November, in which a decision was taken to boycott judicial work in all the courts of Delhi on 4 November in protest against the Ghaziabad incident. No decision has been taken yet on whether the lawyers' strike will continue in Delhi or not. After this incident that took place in the Ghaziabad court complex, the Supreme Court Bar Association and the All India Lawyers Union, an all-India organization of lawyers, had condemned the incident and demanded a judicial inquiry into the matter.

It is noteworthy that on October 29, during the hearing of a bail case, District Judge Anil Kumar got into an argument with the lawyers in Ghaziabad. The debate became so intense that many lawyers gathered in the court room, after which the police were called. Police lathicharged the lawyers. After this incident, Ghaziabad Bar Association has called for a lawyers' strike from November 4. Ghaziabad Bar Association has called for continuing the strike till the transfer of the District Judge and the police officers responsible for the lathi charge.
