Kevin Corden withdraws from the tournament, Lakshya Sen's win goes in vain

Paris, July 29 (HS). India's top shuttler Lakshya Sen's stunning win over Guatemala's Kevin Cordon in a badminton men's singles group L match at the Paris Olympics has been 'deleted'. Cordon withdrew from the multi-sport event due to a left elbow injury, after which the result of this match was removed based on the rules.

Cordon withdrew from the ongoing Paris Olympics due to an elbow injury, following which he will no longer play his upcoming Group L matches against Jonatan Christie of Indonesia and Julien Caraggi of Belgium. As per the BWF General Competition Regulations for Group Stage play, the result of the match between Lakshya Sen and Kevin Cordon was expunged.

The Indian shuttlers will be ranked based on the results of their remaining two matches in Group L. Meanwhile, Lakshya Sen will now face Julian Caraggi on July 29 in his upcoming encounter. Earlier on Saturday, Lakshya defeated Kevin Cordon 21-8, 22-20 in a Group L match of the ongoing Paris Olympics. Lakshya won in straight sets in a match that lasted 42 minutes.

Meanwhile, India won its first medal at the Paris Olympics when top shooter Manu Bhaker won bronze in the 10m women's air pistol event on Sunday. 22-year-old Manu Bhaker became the first Indian woman to win a medal in shooting at the Olympics. Bhaker won the bronze medal with a score of 221.7 to give India its first medal in the ongoing mega event.
