KCR to launch breakfast scheme on October 6, go ahead with saree, sports kit distribution

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will launch the Chief Minister Breakfast Scheme for school children of classes 1 to 10 in government schools from a government school in Rangareddy district on October 6, officials said.
The scheme was planned as a ‘Dussehra gift’ on October 24, but is already being implemented in anticipation of the model code of conduct for the assembly elections, likely in the second week of October.
On similar lines, distribution of Bathukamma sarees and sports kits to the youth was also taken forward, with district collectors directed to complete this work by October 14.
On Rao’s instructions, Chief Secretary A. Shanthi Kumari called an emergency teleconference with collectors late on Tuesday night to set advanced deadlines for the breakfast scheme, Bathukamma sarees and sports kits. Secretaries, commissioners and senior officials of the concerned departments attended the meeting.
While directing the arrangements for Chief Minister Breakfast Scheme, Kumari said that ministers, MLAs and other elected representatives will start this scheme in their respective jurisdictions.
The government has supplied 85 lakh Bathukamma sarees and 18,000 sports kits for the youth for distribution in the districts. Each sports kit will include one T-shirt and four sports equipment.
Officials said the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme, which was budgeted at Rs 400 crore annually to benefit over 30 lakh students in 43,000 government schools in Telangana state, aims to provide nutritious food along with quality education to the students.
