During a dialogue session at the University of Charotar Science and Technology, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar accepted the change in India in the last decade under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On the contrary, he said that Pakistan remains unchanged and continuing its ‘bad habits’.
When asked why the Indian government no longer discussed Pakistan publicly, Jaishankar replied that there is no need to waste ‘precious time’ for this. He said, “India has changed. I wish I could say that Pakistan has also changed. But unfortunately, Pakistan has maintained its old wrong habits.”
Jaishankar described the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attack as a significant turn and said, “This was the time when the Indian people and all political parties decided that it has been enough now. People felt that India could not accept such behavior with its neighbor.”
He further said, “During this time India has made a lot of progress and has improved its position in the world, while Pakistan is adopting its old strategy.”
Comment on Pakistan’s dual strategy:
Jaishankar also spoke on Pakistan’s dual strategy adopted during the struggle in Afghanistan. He said that when America and NATO were present in Afghanistan, Pakistan played double game with the Taliban and also with the other side. But when the US called its army back from Afghanistan, this double game could not continue.
He also said that “The terrorism industry that Pakistan had promoted is now harming it.” He made it clear that the brand of terrorism for India is connected to Pakistan, while India has now made its identity in the technical field.
India’s policy and response:
Jaishankar also supported Prime Minister Modi’s clear policy during India-China deadlock in 2020. He said that the Prime Minister had expressed clear views about India’s response, and there was no confusion in his thinking.
He also said, “If there is terrorism, we will answer it, but why should I spend my precious time on Pakistan?”
