In the last ten days, the Income Tax Department has sent notices to former employees of edtech Byju's for tax deduction at source (TDS) dues.
Byjus employees are embarrassed by this action of the IT department and have demanded clarification from the company about its financial responsibility. Regarding which Edutech has assured the employees that it will make these payments as soon as possible. Byjus employees have confirmed receiving notices through email, courier or both. Notices have been sent to about six thousand current and former employees of the company. After the IT notice, many employees of Byjus reached the company headquarters for clarification. Employees are confused about what these notices are about and what are their responsibilities regarding these notices.
It is worth noting that not deducting tax and provident fund from the employees is considered a serious crime under Indian law. Tax officials can take action against the company for violating this legal provision. Also, employees have to bear the brunt of this in the case of TDS. Recently, the employees of the closed Kingfisher suffered a double blow. Because, they were not paid salary and they had to face action by the tax department.
