Chennai, 23 February (HS). Mumbai City FC will face host Chennaiyin FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 match to be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium this evening. The Islanders (28) are third on the points table and a win with a goal difference of three or more can take them to the top of the table, ousting league leaders Odisha FC (31).
Recovering from a crushing 3-2 defeat to Jamshedpur FC, the Islanders have defeated East Bengal FC and Bengaluru FC in their last two matches. In addition to winning six points from these matches, they have kept two consecutive clean sheets since centre-back Rostyn Griffiths left the club, which is a relief.
In contrast, Chennaiyin FC have played two matches since the league resumed late last month. After losing 1-0 to Bengaluru FC, Marina Machans registered a one-goal win against Kerala Blasters FC.
The match against Mumbai City FC will be an opportunity for Marina Machans to achieve their second consecutive win at home, which will help them (15) move ahead of seventh-placed Jamshedpur FC (17) and sixth-placed NorthEast United FC (18). Helps in getting closer.
“For us, our best this season has been when we have been an attacking team,” Chennaiyin FC assistant coach Sandy Stewart said in the pre-match press conference on Thursday. “We like to put pressure on the opposition, but as you can see, they are also very good at controlling the ball and creating attacks from the back.”
Mumbai City FC Czech Head Coach Peter Kratky said, “It was very important for us to bounce back after losing to Jamshedpur FC, and then back-to-back wins have made things even better. We have to continue our work and repeat it as many times as possible.”
Let us tell you that so far 19 matches have been played between the two teams, in which Mumbai City has won 10 and Chennai has won 6, while 3 matches have been drawn.
