India’s ranking falls, Singapore tops

India’s passport ranking has dropped to 85th in the 2025 Henley Passport Index. Last year India was at 80th position. This year, Indian passport holders can travel visa-free to 57 countries. India is sharing its ranking with Equatorial Guinea and Niger. On the other hand, Pakistan’s ranking is 103rd.

Singapore’s dominance continues

Singapore has ranked first in the Henley Passport Index for the second consecutive year. Singapore passport holders can travel visa-free to 195 countries. Japan is in second place, whose passport holders can travel to 193 countries without a visa.

Situation of UAE and America

The UAE has improved its ranking significantly over the past decade and is now at 10th place. Its citizens can travel visa-free to 185 countries. On the other hand, America’s ranking has dropped to ninth place, whereas in 2015 it was at second place.

Afghanistan ranks at the bottom in Henley Passport Index 2025. Its passport holders can travel visa-free to only 26 countries. Above it are Syria (27 countries), Iraq (31 countries), and Pakistan and Yemen (33 countries).

What does ranking mean for India?

Indian passport holders enjoy visa-free travel to 57 countries, but the drop in ranking indicates that India needs to further strengthen its international relations and travel facilities.
