Student showed his father as dead for scholarship Recently, a shocking incident of fraud has come to light in an American university. This fraud was committed by a 19-year-old Indian student Aryan Anand, due to which his American dream has been shattered.
What was the incident?
The details of this incident, which looks like a movie, are that a student named Aryan Anand from India got admission in Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, USA and prepared a fake certificate of his father's death to get a scholarship of Rs. 70 lakh. Aryan's plan is also evident from the fact that he submitted false income documents of his family and created a fake email account of his school principal in India and sent his fake recommendation letters to Lehigh University.
How to uncover happiness?
Anand, who succeeded in his plan to get admission in an American university, put up a scathing post on Reddit in which he confessed that 'I have built my life and career on lies.' He may have been overconfident that his pillar would never crack because he had kept his identity hidden, but it is said that stocks always have stocks on their heads. This is what happened in Anand's case as well.
Another Reddit user read Anand's post and became suspicious. Although Anand had posted it hiding his real identity, the user tracked Anand down. He informed the university and the university police department began an investigation, following which Anand was arrested.
a confession of joy
Anand, while confessing his crime, said that I wanted to go abroad at any cost and for this I hatched this conspiracy. When I was in India, I used to lock my room and watch movies all night and sleep all day. And my innocent parents used to think that I sleep during the day because I study all night. When it was time to go to college, I felt like going abroad. I falsified my school results and wrote first percentile and on that basis got admission in the USA. I mentioned that my father died of cancer and also wrote that I am too poor to pay the tuition fees. The university kindly approved my scholarship. I got air ticket to America, accommodation, food, studies, everything for free. That is, the university was giving me the full expense of coming to India once a year.
Did Anand get punished?
Anand was charged with forgery, misrepresentation and misuse of services. His admission to Lehigh University has been cancelled with immediate effect. In the US, such a crime is punishable by 10 to 20 years in prison, but luckily the US was content to sentence him to deportation.
Another case
Some time ago, another fraud committed by an Indian student abroad also made headlines. An Indian student studying in Canada created a stir by posting a video showing how he gets free food from a local food bank. The student named Mehul Prajapati, who was working as a data scientist along with his studies, was heavily criticized after the video went viral, due to which he lost his job.
Indian parents should also learn from cases like Lal Batti. It is their duty to keep a close watch on what their children are doing.
