Kathmandu, 23 August (HS). A bus going from Gorakhpur to Nepal fell into the Marsyangdi river at a place called Ainapahara in Tanahun on Friday. The rescue team that reached the spot has recovered the bodies of 14 bus passengers. Although Nepal Police has released the list of all 40 passengers, driver and co-driver in the bus, the names of 14 dead have not been identified. 16 injured people have been rescued from the spot and admitted to the hospital. A helicopter of the Nepal Army has been sent to the accident site with a medical team.
Kaski Police spokesperson and DSP Shailendra Thapa said that 40 passengers from Gorakhpur, India had come to Pokhara by bus (UP-53 FT 7623) two days ago. All these people stayed at Majheri Resort in Pokhara. They stayed at the resort on Wednesday and Thursday and left by bus for Kathmandu on Friday morning. On Friday morning, this bus going from Pokhara to Kathmandu fell into the Marsyangdi river from a place called Ainapahara in Tanahun. As soon as the news of the accident was received, the rescue team reached the spot and started removing the passengers from the bus stuck on the river bank. Kaski Police Chief SP Mohan Thapa said that till 1 pm, the bodies of 14 people have been removed. 17 injured people have been rescued and sent to the hospital.
Tanahun DSP Deepak Kumar Rai said that the number of dead and injured may increase as rescue operations continue. According to him, there were 43 people on board the bus, including the driver and co-driver. Apart from these, there is also bus driver Murtija and conductor Ramjeet. All the tourists traveling in the bus are said to be from Maharashtra.
DSP Deepak Rai said that a team of 10 divers from Nepal Police and Armed Police have been sent into the river to search for the 13 missing passengers of the Indian bus. The bus is stranded on the banks of the river.
