The ministry is preparing to implement such measures which will benefit the common passengers and make their journey comfortable. Indian Railways intends to launch a super app offering multiple services like ticketing and train tracking, which will introduce a 24-hour ticket refund scheme, replacing the existing three-day process.
100 day agenda of railways
- Indian Railways aims to launch PM Rail Yatri Bima Yojana insurance scheme for passengers within the first 100 days.
- The government has to seek Cabinet approval for three economic corridors spanning 40,900 km, which require an investment of Rs 11 lakh crore.
- There are plans to introduce an easy refund scheme for passengers in which passengers will get the refund within 24 hours of ticket cancellation.
- Railways may launch a “super-app” in which passengers will be able to track their train status, book tickets and do many other railway-related tasks at one place.
- There are plans to run trains from Jammu to Kashmir upon completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project. This part of the USBRL project also includes the Chenab Bridge which is the highest railway bridge in the world.
- India's first vertical-lift bridge, Pamban Railway Bridge, is expected to be operational. It connects the rest of the country to Rameshwaram. Train services between Mandapam and Rameshwaram were discontinued in December 2022 due to safety concerns over the rail bridge built in 1913.
- Railway officials are also working on introducing sleeper versions of Vande Bharat trains. The first prototype of Vande Bharat sleeper train is being built by BEML in Bengaluru and is expected to be ready in six months' time.
- Railways is also planning to accelerate the Bullet Train project. The focus will be on operationalizing about 320 km of the 508 km long Ahmedabad-Mumbai Bullet Train section by April 2029.
