New Delhi, June 7 (HS). The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the calendar for the Indian domestic cricket season 2024-25, with the Duleep Trophy starting first in Anantapur from September 5. As reported earlier, the Ranji Trophy will now be played in two phases, with a window given for white-ball competitions.
An official statement issued by the BCCI on Thursday night said, “The final of the Ranji Trophy is scheduled to be held in March 2025. Apart from this, the BCCI has also revealed that they will test a new points system in the CK Nayudu Trophy (Under-23 cricket). In this, points will be awarded for batting and bowling skills in the first innings, as well as points for taking a lead in the first innings or achieving a complete victory.”
The BCCI also said that after evaluation it can be included in the Ranji Trophy as well. The toss system will also be abolished in the tournament and the visiting team will get a chance to choose what they want to do.
The Syed Mushtaq Ali (T20 tournament) will now be played between November and December, followed immediately by the Vijay Hazare Trophy which will begin in December and end in January before the Ranji Trophy resumes.
“A longer gap between matches has been incorporated to prioritise player welfare, ensuring adequate time for recovery and sustained top performance,” the statement said.
Challenger Trophy for women returns
For women's cricket, the Challenger Trophy, in which teams are selected by selectors, is an important addition. The Challenger Trophy was last played in ODI format in 2021-22 and in T20 format in 2022-23. The multi-day tournament, relaunched in regional format in 2023-24, will now be played as the Challenger Trophy.
“The all-women Challenger tournament, spread across one-day, T20 and multi-day formats, will feature teams selected by the national selectors,” the BCCI said.
