Indian Army Day in the country today (indian army day) is being celebrated. On this occasion, Army Chief General MM Naravane (Army Chief General MM Naravane), Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal VR Choudhary (Chief Marshal VR Choudhary) and Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar paid tribute to the martyrs at the National War Memorial in the capital Delhi. On the occasion of Army Day, PM Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind also congratulated the soldiers. PM Modi tweeted and wrote that ‘Indian Army jawans serve in hostile areas. The Army has always been at the fore in helping the citizens of the country during humanitarian crisis including natural calamities. India is proud of the outstanding contribution of the Army in peacekeeping operations abroad as well.
Francis Butcher served as the last British general in India. After that the command of the Indian Army was handed over to Field Marshal KM Cariappa. Cariappa became the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army. Indian Army Day is celebrated every year on 15 January to commemorate KM Cariappa taking over as the top commander of the Indian Army.

Field Marshal KM Cariappa became the first Indian Army Chief of independent India on 15 January 1949. Cariappa took command of the army from the last British Commander-in-Chief of India, General Sir Francis Butcher. It is considered one of the most important events in the history of India. Therefore, every year on 15 January, Indian Army Day is celebrated in India as the memory of Field Marshal KM Cariappa.
