Governor of Uttar Pradesh and Chancellor Anandi Ben Patel said that our country is full of diversity, where there is a need to bring agriculture and agriculture related businesses on one platform. India has 2.4 percent of the world's geographical area and four percent of water resources. India has the largest agriculture sector in the world.
The 17th convocation of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Governor Anandi Ben Patel. During this, 20 medals were given to the meritorious students and degrees were given to 270 students in graduation, post-graduation and PhD. The program was inaugurated by garlanding the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and offering water to the peepal tree. The Governor honored the students who got first place in the school competition and the best Anganwadi workers. He distributed gifts to the children of primary schools and Anganwadi kits for children to the Anganwadi workers.
In the convocation ceremony, degrees were awarded to 254 students for graduation in various subjects, nine for post graduation and seven for PhD. For academic excellence, 15 students from various colleges were awarded Vice Chancellor Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. Shivangi Saxena was awarded the Chancellor Gold Medal for her combined excellent performance in academic and co-curricular activities at the undergraduate level of the university.
The Governor said that 70 percent of the medals received by the convocation were girls. The Prime Minister has set a target of making India developed and self-reliant by the year 2047. The Prime Minister has asked to double the income of farmers, in which natural and organic farming will prove to be helpful. The Prime Minister has developed Shrianna as a brand. Shrianna is beneficial for health and farmers are also getting economic benefits from its cultivation. Today, people's trust in Shrianna products has increased from the point of view of nutrition all over the world. This year, interviews of 28 companies were conducted by running a campus placement campaign, in which 110 students participated and 48 students were selected.
The Chancellor said that the students should bring the knowledge of agriculture into practice in their lives and take advantage by joining the startup schemes being given by the government. He called upon the university to make efforts for better grading of NAAC. He congratulated the university on filing eight patents and registering three patents. He also called for developing one oilseed village in every block. Referring to the ambitious projects approved by the Central Government, the Governor said that Digital Agriculture Mission of Rs 2817 crore and Crop Science Project of Rs 3979 crore have an important role in increasing the income of farmers.
Special guest, State Minister for Agriculture, Agricultural Education and Research Suryapratap Shahi said that possibilities of agro tourism should be explored in western Uttar Pradesh so that local youth can get employment at the rural level. Referring to the role of students in developed India, he called upon the students to study with discipline and work hard.
Chief Guest, Chairman, Agricultural Scientist Selection Board, New Delhi, Dr. Sanjay Kumar said that the International Monetary Fund estimates that India's economy will reach 4.2 trillion dollars by the year 2025, and agriculture will play an important role in this. Agriculture is the economic foundation of India, it provides employment to more than 55 percent of the population. Today our country has become self-sufficient in food grains. Our country has to import items like flowers, pulses, oil, spices. We have to work towards increasing their production. He said that we have to recognize our innovative powers and move forward with positive thinking and big dreams.
During the convocation, Vice Chancellor Prof. KK Singh explained in detail about the achievements of the university and the future programs, projects and education, research and extension. Director General of Ex-Servicemen Rehabilitation Directorate General New Delhi, Major General SBK Singh and Vice Chancellor of the University Dr. KK Singh signed an MoU under which the university will provide 21 days training to the retiring or retired personnel of the Indian Army. On this occasion, Major General SBK Singh informed that this is the first agricultural university in the country to sign such an MoU.
