air travel becomes expensive

Air fares have increased by 20 to 25 percent due to flight cancellations and increased travel demand; Passengers will have to pay more for domestic flights this summer. Due to cancellation of Vistara Airlines flights and strong demand from passengers, air fares have already increased by 20-25 percent. According to experts, every year the demand for air travel is high during the summer season, but this year the aviation industry is facing many challenges in increasing the capacity to meet the demand. It is even using larger aircraft on domestic routes. During this period, air fares have already increased due to the cancellation of more than a hundred flights of Tata Group's Vistara airline.

Facing the anger of the pilots, the airline has reduced its total capacity by 25-30 flights per day i.e. 10 percent. An analysis by travel website ixigo showed that fares on some airlines increased by as much as 39 per cent in the period from April 1 to April 7 compared to the period from March 1 to 7. One-way fares for Delhi-Bengaluru flights increased by 39 per cent. During this period, it saw a growth of 30 per cent, while for Delhi-Srinagar flights. According to the analysis, the fare increase was 12 per cent in case of Delhi-Mumbai flight services and eight per cent in case of Mumbai-Delhi services.

Bharat Malik, senior vice president (aircraft and hotel business), travel portal Yatra Online, said the average airfares are expected to increase between 20-25 per cent in the current summer flight schedule, covering both domestic and international routes. Malik said Vistara's decision to cut flights by 10 per cent has affected ticket prices on major domestic routes. “We have seen a significant increase in rents.” Prices on major routes like Delhi-Goa, Delhi-Kochi, Delhi-Jammu and Delhi-Srinagar have increased by about 20-25 per cent. He said that one of the main reasons for high airfares is reduction in flight operations by Vistara. Additionally, rising fuel costs as well as increased demand for summer travel have also played a role in the increase in fares. Jagan Narayan Padmanabhan, senior director and global head (transport and logistics), CRISIL Market Intelligence & Analytics, said fares are expected to increase by five-seven per cent as the peak season approaches. Most of the travel will be for personal reasons and with family, so it is expected to have a significant impact. In such a situation, people can opt for rail travel for short distances.
