These days a person is making rounds of the Income Tax Department in Gaya district of Bihar. The Income Tax Department has issued a notice of Rs 2 crore to a person doing a private job worth Rs 10,000. The victim has been identified as Rajiv Kumar. Rajiv says that he earns Rs 10,000 per month. I had never thought of such a huge amount in my life. Rajiv's entire family is shocked by this notice. Now they do not understand what will happen next.
Rajeev told that he is an ordinary labourer. We have to earn our livelihood. Rajiv has been visiting the Income Tax Department office for the last four days, but his problem has not been resolved yet. Rajiv told that even if he continues to work as a laborer all his life, he will never be able to earn such a huge amount.
This is how I got a notice of Rs 2 crore
Rajiv told that on January 22, 2015, he had made a fixed deposit of Rs 2 lakh in Corporation Bank (Gaya Branch). Which he withdrew before maturity on 16 August 2016. Despite this, a notice of Rs 2 crore has been sent to him by the Income Tax Department. It has been told in the notice that in the year 2015-16, Rajiv had made a fixed deposit of Rs 2 crore. Whose return has not been filed. Also the tax amount has not been deposited. Rajiv has been asked to pay a fine of Rs 67 lakh within two days. Rajiv says that I do not have any information related to income tax. Rajiv was told by the Income Tax Department that this could be a technical mistake. He has been advised to file an appeal. If this mistake is found then it can be rectified through appeal.
What is the alternative?
If any such person receives a wrong notice then he should appeal to the Income Tax Department. The department should give information related to your income and bank account. Apart from this, such a person will have to submit his bank statement, PAN card and other important documents.
