Lucknow, June 10 (HS). In Thakurganj police station area, a young man strangled his wife to death with her dupatta. The nephew who reached the spot at the time of the incident saw him and shouted and with the help of people, the accused was caught. The police sent the body for postmortem and started further action.
Shakeel Ahmed, who lives in Harinagar of Thakurganj, works as a plotter. He is addicted to alcohol. He quarrels with his wife Reshma every day after coming home drunk. Nephew Iqrar Babu said that he used to beat his uncle and aunt after getting drunk. On Sunday midnight too, his uncle came home drunk and started beating his aunt over some issue. During this time, he started strangling his aunt with her dupatta. Hearing the screams, his nephew who was sleeping with his grandmother in the courtyard outside saw that his aunt was being strangled with her dupatta after throwing her on the bed. He raised an alarm and gathered people. He caught the accused and took the unconscious aunt to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Police reached the spot after getting the information, took the body in their custody and started investigation.
Police station in-charge Shrikant Rai said that a case has been registered on the complaint of the nephew and the accused Shakeel has been taken into custody. He is being questioned.
