Kanpur, 25 July (HS). A test cricket match is to be held between India and Bangladesh from 27 September in Green Park Kanpur. Preparations are being made for it. On Thursday, the Public Works Department officials inspected the stadium. When the team reached the C balcony, they were stunned to see its condition from outside. The team members said that maintenance has not been done for a long time. The iron rods are peeping out by tearing the roof. Seeing the condition of the C balcony, the team itself gave up. They said that its inspection will be done by IIT Kanpur only, because there is a seating arrangement for about five and a half thousand people here. Therefore, no kind of risk will be taken here. The whole building demands maintenance.
UPCA officials kept dodging the questions asked by the Public Works officials regarding the damaged galleries and spectator capacity of Green Park. No official could answer the questions of the Public Works officials properly. Here they inspected each balcony and spectator gallery for several hours. Before the inspection, the officials asked the officials of Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association what is the spectator capacity of the stadium, but no one could give the correct answer. After this, the Sports Department provided its old documents. Then the officials started the inspection work. Assistant Engineer of PWD Department Rahul Singh along with his team talked to the senior members of the association on phone, but they too could not tell the correct thing. After this, Regional Sports Officer of Sports Department Amit Pal, Babu Manoj Kumar provided some documents, in which the spectator capacity was written. After this it was found out that at present the stadium has a capacity of 30200, but last time the PWD had inspected and given the capacity of 22230 spectators after looking at the current condition of the stadium.
First of all, the team inspected Pavilion A ground and balcony, where rainwater was dripping from the building when seen from outside. Apart from this, water was also falling from the roof at many places. Its spectator capacity is about 2300. But seeing the current condition, it is said to be suitable for spectators only up to 70 percent of its capacity. After this, all the members of the team reached B General. There is a seating arrangement on the stairs here. It has a capacity of about 2082 spectators, but some stairs here were seen in very bad condition. During the inspection, Assistant Engineer Rahul Singh was present along with Junior Engineer Akhilesh Kumar, Shyam Sundar, Surjeet Singh and Regional Sports Officer of Sports Department Amit Pal. After inspection, the team will submit its report to the Commissioner of Kanpur Division.
