A scheme of the Japanese government has caused a big uproar in the country. Reportedly, the government offered an incentive of 6 lakh yen (Rs 3,52,758) to urban girls if they marry rural men. According to a report by Japan's Asahi News, the government has taken this decision in view of the unbalanced regional development. The government believes that this discrepancy is affecting the social progress of the country.
According to Japan's 2023 Population Migration Report, about 68 thousand people moved to Tokyo last year. More than half of them were women. However, according to Japanese media, people did not like this plan of the government and due to criticism the proposal was withdrawn.
Objective of the scheme
It should be known that the government's objective behind this scheme was that the workforce in rural areas is decreasing due to most people migrating to cities. Especially women are leaving rural areas and moving to cities in large numbers in search of good education and employment. Due to the migration of population from rural areas, schools and hospitals are closed in many places. They have to be closed. The effect of all this is also that the birth of newborns is also decreasing here.
Therefore, this plan was made in such a way that there is no imbalance in economic development between different regions and there is also a balance among the population. Under this, it was proposed that women who want to leave Tokyo and live in rural areas will be given this incentive amount.
The plan states that there are 23 municipalities in Tokyo. Unmarried women or single women working here can take advantage of this scheme. The government was also ready to bear the expenses of these girls going to rural areas to find suitable partners. But as soon as this proposal was announced, it was strongly opposed and the government had to step back and the plan was shelved.
Massive opposition
People on social media have protested against this plan, saying that girls are leaving backward rural areas and going to Tokyo because they hope to have a better life there. Now the government wants them to return. This is absolutely nonsense.
Population crisis
Japan is currently facing a severe population crisis. The birth rate has reached its lowest level ever. In June this year, the Health Minister announced that the birth rate has reached a critical level for the eighth consecutive year. Last year, less than 5 lakh couples got married across the country, which is the lowest in 90 years. It is generally believed that people here do not want to get involved in the process of marriage and the desire for children is also negligible.
