ICMR’s big disclosure on Delta variant, statement about the effect on children

New Delhi: According to this study of ICMR, the most prominent corona virus variant to infect children proved to be Delta (Corona Virus Variant Delta). This study was done from March 2020 to June 2021. 8 states were included in this study. The states included Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh and Chandigarh.

Who were involved in the study?

In this study of ICMR, 583 samples of children up to 18 years of age were included. Of these, 52% were in the age group of 13 to 19 years, 41% were in the age group of 3 to 12 years and less than 7% were below 3 years of age. Let us tell you that out of the total 583 children, 37% were children in whom symptoms of corona virus were seen and 15% of these children needed to go to the hospital. All these children were Kovid-19 positive.

What does the figure say?

Genome sequencing of 512 was done out of a total of 583 samples. Out of these, Variant of Concern was found in 372 while Variant of Interest was found in 51 samples. For information, let us tell you that other variants were also found in 89 samples. The Delta variant was found in the sample of about 66% of the children.

Other variants also included in the sample

Apart from Delta Variant in the sample, Kappa Variant was found in 9% of children, Alpha Variant in 7% of children and Beta Variant was found in about 5% of samples.

Which variant has more in which state?

Delta variants were found more in Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana. Whereas the Kappa variant was found in the samples of children from Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Chandigarh.
