Paris Olympics 2024: Indian badminton star Lakshya Sen was expected to win a medal for the country at the Paris Olympics. He created history by reaching the men's singles semi-finals on behalf of India. He became the first Indian to do so. Lakshya Sen was defeated by Denmark's Axelsen Viktor in the semi-finals on August 4. A day later on August 5, he was defeated by Malaysia's Lee Zii Jia 13-21, 21-16 and 21-11 in the bronze medal match.
Veteran player Prakash Padukone, who coached the badminton team in the Paris Olympics, took aim at the target and said that winning a medal is not the fourth position. India's hopes of winning a medal in badminton ended on Monday with Lakshya Sen's defeat to Malaysia's Lee Zii Jia. After losing this match, he is in fourth place. Coach Prakash Padukone expressed displeasure over Lakshya's defeat.
We are not at all happy with Lakshya Sen finishing fourth in the Olympics: Coach
He said bluntly, “Vimal and I are not at all happy with Lakshya Sen finishing fourth in the Olympics. He would have definitely won a medal for the country. Some people will definitely say, Axelsen said that Lakshya is going to be the next superstar player. These things do not matter.”
“Lakshya had a chance to win a medal. But, if he had lost to Jonatan Christie in the group match, he would have been the talk of the town. When you had a chance to win a medal after coming so far, you took the lead in the very first match but lost.”
Whatever the government has asked from the players
Praising the Government of India and all the federations, Padukone said that now is not the time when we did not get help from the government or the federations. The government has given everything that the players had asked for, so no shortcomings can be found.
