Husband convicted in dowry death case gets 10 years imprisonment

Hamirpur, June 15 (HS). The guilty husband was sentenced to ten years of imprisonment on Saturday in a dowry murder case registered on the court's order about ten and a half years ago in Biwar police station. Additional Sessions Judge FTC First Manoj Kumar Shasan imposed a fine of six thousand rupees while pronouncing the verdict.

Vijay Singh, resident of Sayer village of Biwar police station, presently residing in Anand Vihar police station Naubasta Kanpur, submitted an application under 1563 in the court. He told that he married his sister Kusum to Narsingh son of Vijay Bahadur resident of Masgawan police station Muskra, presently residing in Anand Vihar police station Naubasta Kanpur on 24 June 2011 as per Hindu customs. He gave dowry as per his capacity. Even after this, the in-laws were not happy. They started harassing his sister by demanding additional dowry. On 26 November 2012, her husband, mother-in-law Tulsi, father-in-law and brother-in-law Dharmendra, Bhupendra, brother-in-law Neetu Singh, Sonu Singh, brother-in-law Dharam Singh's wife and sister-in-law Rashmi locked her in a room, poured kerosene on her and set her on fire. Due to which she died during treatment in Hallet on 30 November 2012.

She gave a complaint letter about the case to the police station and higher authorities, but when no action was taken, she approached the court. On the court's order, the police filed a dowry death case on February 4, 2013 and presented the charge sheet against the husband in the court. Hearing the case on Saturday, the judge held him guilty and sentenced him to ten years of imprisonment and a fine of six thousand rupees.
