Plastic pollution has become a serious problem in India. This problem is proving fatal not only for the environment but also for animals, especially cows. Thousands of cows die every year due to eating plastic. This is an issue which people are not taking seriously and due to this a large number of cows are dying.

Why is plastic becoming deadly?

Stomach accumulation: When cows eat plastic, it accumulates in their stomachs. This plastic damages their digestive system and does not allow the food to be digested properly.

Blockage: Pieces of plastic get stuck in the intestines and completely block the digestive system.

Toxic substances: Plastic contains various toxic chemicals which accumulate in the bodies of cows. These chemicals damage various organs and cause many diseases.

Loss of appetite: Due to plastic in the stomach, cows lose appetite and eat less. This causes malnutrition and weakness.

Many cows die every year from eating plastic?

According to a United Nations report, 500 billion plastic bags are used every year around the world. The number of deaths of cows is highest due to eating plastic polythene. Many studies have shown that thousands of cows in India die every year due to eating plastic.

Although exact statistics are not available as many deaths are not recorded, it is certain that the problem is huge and needs attention. Names of many states are included in this list. But the condition of states like Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh is worst. According to a 2018 report by India Today, 1000 animals died here after eating plastic waste. Apart from this, this is a serious problem in other cities of the country also.
