Hotel sealed in Hyderabad over food safety concerns

Municipal authorities in Hyderabad have sealed a hotel due to serious food safety and hygiene concerns.
The food safety wing of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) sealed Alpha Hotel in Secunderabad after it found that the management failed to take corrective measures to maintain sanitary conditions at the hotel.
The follow-up inspection was conducted on Sunday, two days after the first inspection, following a customer complaint.
During the first inspection, officials had found significant irregularities in adherence to security standards at the hotel. They had collected food samples on suspicion of violation of provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and sent them to the state food laboratory.
Authorities had issued a notice to the hotel management asking them to close the premises and rectify the problems identified. However, during follow-up inspection officials found that the management had not taken necessary steps to improve sanitary conditions.
Food safety wing officials said the management had failed to adequately address food safety concerns. After their report, GHMC decided to seal the hotel. The civic body wrote to the district administration for further action against the hotel management.
Earlier, the police had registered a case against the management of the popular hotel after a customer complained that he had fallen ill after having breakfast at the hotel on September 15.
Mohammad Jamiruddin had complained at Monda Market Police Station that he had ordered Mutton Kheema Roti with his friends. One of them, Mahmood, suddenly started vomiting. The complainant alleges that there was a foul smell coming from the dish.
The police had registered a case under sections 273 and 336 of the Indian Penal Code.
