Bangladesh is heading towards chaos. Even after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country, peace has not been restored. A star-rated hotel owned by an Awami League party leader was set on fire by rioters, killing at least 24 people, according to local Bangladeshi journalists and a hospital. Bhunjai, an Indonesian national, survived the attack.
Most of the dead were people who had come to eat at the hotel. The mob set fire to the Jabir International Hotel on Monday night. The hotel was owned by Awami League party general secretary Shahin Chakkaladar, which is located in Johor district. An Indonesian citizen is also among the dead. According to local journalists, doctors at Johor General Hospital also counted 24 bodies and confirmed it. Hotel staff who survived the incident said that more bodies could be found in the rubble. According to reports, anti-Awami League party mobs set fire to the ground floor of the hotel which soon spread to the upper floors. Across Bangladesh, the Hindu community is currently being targeted, including leaders and workers associated with the Awami League party.
