Once again a Hindu temple has been targeted in America. It has come to light that anti-social elements have damaged the BAPS Swaminarayan temple located in Melville area of New York. The Consulate General of India in New York has raised this matter before the US administration. The embassy has condemned the attack and called it unacceptable. The embassy has also requested immediate action against the criminals involved in this act.
What is the whole matter?
According to footage that surfaced on social media, offensive words were spray-painted on the street and signs were put up outside a Hindu temple in Melville. The Hindu American Foundation has said that the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security should investigate the incident.
Indian embassy protested
The Indian Consulate in New York posted on Twitter on Monday regarding the entire matter. The embassy has said that the vandalism of the signboard near the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Melville, New York is unacceptable. The post said that the consulate is “in touch with the community and has taken up the matter with officials of law enforcement agencies to take immediate action against the perpetrators of this heinous act.”

Importantly, Melville is located in Suffolk County, Long Island and is about 28 kilometres from the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address a community event on September 22.
