News India Live, Digital Desk: The atmosphere suddenly heated up in Bengaluru’s Jagjivan Ram Nagar (JJ Nagar) area on Sunday when heavy stone pelting took place during a procession. The atmosphere which was filled with devotion and enthusiasm till some time ago, turned into tension in no time. At present, heavy police deployment has been made in the area and the situation is said to be under control.
How did the controversy start suddenly?
According to the information received, a procession of Lord Ram was being taken out in the area. Everything was going on peacefully, people were in excitement and songs were playing on the DJ. When the procession was passing near a religious place, an altercation broke out between some youth there. According to eyewitnesses, the dispute started over DJ playing and sloganeering.
Within no time the argument escalated so much that it led to a scuffle. And then suddenly some anti-social elements in the crowd started throwing stones. Due to this there was a stampede and people started running here and there to save their lives.
Stones scattered on the roads, police action
As soon as the news of stone pelting was received, the local police immediately reached the spot. The police had to show some strictness to control the situation. Lathi charge was resorted to to disperse the crowd, only then the miscreants ran away from there. Some people also suffered minor injuries in this uproar and some vehicles involved in the procession were damaged.
‘Khaki’ guard in the entire area
After this incident, there is silence in the entire JJ Nagar and surrounding Chamarajpet area, but the tension can be clearly felt. As a precautionary measure, the police have converted the area into a cantonment. DCP and other senior officers are present at the spot so that no disturbance happens again.
Police officials say that they are scanning the CCTV footage and those who have tried to spoil the atmosphere will not be spared. People have been appealed to maintain peace and not pay attention to any kind of rumour.
