Heat-stricken Delhiites endured the hottest night in 12 years, read IMD update

Hottest night in Delhi: All the states of North India are suffering due to the heat wave. Wednesday was the hottest night in Delhi in 12 years. The minimum temperature was recorded at 35.2 degrees. Which was eight degrees more than the normal season. On Tuesday also the temperature was recorded at 33.8 degrees Celsius. According to the information received from the Meteorological Department, the hottest night in Delhi was recorded in June 2012.

Beds will be reserved for heat stroke patients

Currently, due to the heatwave conditions in Delhi, hospitals are witnessing a rush of patients complaining of heat stroke and exhaustion. Doctors have advised the elderly and patients with weak immunity to avoid stepping out.

Also, Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj has announced to reserve two beds for heat stroke patients in Delhi government-run hospitals. Also, five beds will be reserved in LNJP Hospital.

Chance of rain on Wednesday

As parts of north and east India are reeling under scorching heat, the demand for electricity has reached record highs. Also, the water level of rivers and reservoirs has gone down considerably. Many areas are dependent on water tankers. People living in high temperatures at night have also faced problems.

The heat wave is also being seen in hilly areas like Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The temperature in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand and Bihar has been between 44 and 46 degrees. The Meteorological Department has predicted that light rain on Wednesday may provide some relief.

Power grid failure, short circuit and fire incidents have increased

The maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 44 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature at 33.8 degrees. This year's temperature is about 6 degrees higher than normal. Due to this, the maximum demand for electricity in Delhi reached 8,647 MW on Tuesday. Apart from this, incidents of fire due to short circuit have also increased.

The temperature in these places reached 45 degrees Celsius

On Tuesday, the temperature reached 45 degrees Celsius in at least 10 places in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab and Haryana. In which Orai of Uttar Pradesh was the hottest place in the country with 46.4 degrees Celsius. At the same time, the temperature in Sangaria, Rajasthan was recorded at 44.9 degrees Celsius.

Also, according to the information received from IMD, heavy to very heavy rains are likely to continue in West Bengal, Assam and Meghalaya during the next two days.

In May, 46 people died due to heat and more than 19,000 cases of heat stroke were reported in the country, according to data from the National Center for Disease Control.

Extreme heat and heat waves are common during April and May in India. And according to scientists, the impact is exacerbated by climate change. According to the data, India has experienced 12 hottest years since 2006, with 2016 being the hottest year on record.
